BHM Trading was first established as Bashir Trading Agency (BTA) in 1950 and then renamed in 2016 under the BHM Holding, Ltd umbrella. The trading firm was a pioneer in commodity trading in East Africa bringing sugar from India in the 1980s to the East African common market.

BTA had also been instrumental in bringing large multinationals to East Africa such as FIAT, Ferguson, and other prominent companies. Currently, the firm has various trading segments operating primarily in Kenya and the COMESA market.
